Why Miami?

MiamiCoin ($MIA) will be the first CityCoin to market, and provides an exciting new way to accelerate progress in the Magic City. As CityCoins continues to gain traction among a diverse mix of community leaders, developers, and local officials across the US and beyond, we wanted to share why it is so exciting to kick off CityCoins in Miami.

Why Miami?

Miami has long been a center of culture and innovation in the US, and over the last year the city has increasingly taken center stage as a tech and crypto startup city due to technologically progressive leadership.

Tech founders have moved to the city en masse in recognition of Miami’s strong network effects. The city’s leadership is embracing crypto and offering support for the tech industry as a whole. Mayor Suarez has expressed excitement for MiamiCoin and his enthusiasm is a testament to Miami’s culture of disruption and constant evolution.

MiamiCoin × The City of Miami

CityCoins is at heart a grassroots initiative. This means with the launch of MiamiCoin on August 3, the STX forwarded by MiamiCoin miners can be claimed by the city of Miami. The City of Miami has formally adopted resolutions allowing their procurement offices to begin their due diligence process on $MIA.

Building on MiamiCoin

Since CityCoins like MiamiCoin are programmable and built on open-source software, they also offer a new way for developers to create applications and experiment with innovative use cases. Miami’s local community has been very supportive of CityCoins, and as the city continues to embrace the CityCoins project, anyone will be able to use MiamiCoin as they wish. The CityCoins community can encourage the city’s university students and independent hackers to take the lead in creating new applications that require holding or using MiamiCoin. With the amount of energy, talent, and positivity latent in Miami, we couldn’t think of a more perfect city to kick off this project!

Cities aren’t fully leveraging crypto markets to benefit their residents unless they embrace open-source, community-led projects like CityCoins. Miami is taking the first step towards revolutionizing civic engagement from the ground up, but this is only the beginning, and it’s safe to say that the CityCoins movement is just getting started.
